A Performance Apparel Designer designs how clothing performs in real life, not only how it looks.
At Home to Hike, this role connects function, fabric, movement, and lifestyle. The goal is apparel that feels effortless in the city, yet ready for heat, sweat, movement, travel, and outdoor conditions.
Products must do more than look good. They must breathe, move, dry, protect, and support the body throughout the day.
Scope of Works:
- Performance Fabric Selection
- Select technical fabrics based on real-life function, not just appearance. This includes studying and testing breathability, quick-dry, moisture management, antibacterial properties, UV protection, stretch and recovery, lightweight comfort, durability, and skin feel in hot-humid climates.
- Functional Design Development
- Design with purpose behind every line, seam, panel, and detail. Every decision must answer: “What does this improve for the wearer?”
- Includes pattern direction, ventilation zones, pocket placement, seam positioning, movement allowance, heat release areas, reflective details, packability, layering logic, and everyday usability.
- Goal: products that look simple outside, but highly considered underneath.
- Product Testing & Validation
- Performance apparel must be tested, not guessed. Products should be checked through commuting, walking, running, hiking, traveling, hot weather, heavy sweating, washing, drying, and long wear.
- Goal: find the truth before the customer does.
Core Responsibility:
To design apparel that balances function and fashion, city and nature, comfort and performance, simplicity and innovation, everyday life and outdoor movement.
This role helps people move through modern life with more comfort, confidence, and freedom.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in apparel design, product development, fashion design, sportswear, activewear, or outdoor apparel is preferred. Trail running, hiking, or outdoor lifestyle passion is a strong plus.
